Welcome to the Thyroid section of ENT!
This page offers exam-oriented, easy-to-follow notes on thyroid-related topics, designed specifically for MBBS and ENT students.
What is the Thyroid?
The thyroid gland is a butterfly-shaped endocrine organ located in the lower neck, responsible for producing thyroid hormones that regulate metabolism. Its anatomical position and close relation to critical neck structures make it a key area of focus in both ENT and general surgical practice.
Mastering the thyroid section is essential for understanding:
- Goiter (multinodular, diffuse, toxic)
- Thyroiditis (acute, subacute, chronic)
- Thyroid neoplasms (benign and malignant)
- Thyroid function tests and interpretation
- Thyroid surgery (indications, steps, complications)
The thyroid is also closely related to recurrent laryngeal nerve, parathyroid glands, trachea, and major vessels, making surgical anatomy particularly high-yield.
Here you'll find structured notes on:
- Thyroid anatomy and embryology
- Physiology and hormonal regulation
- Clinical evaluation of thyroid swellings
- Thyroid investigations and imaging
- Thyroid disorders and management
- Indications and steps of thyroidectomy
- Complications and post-op care
βall crafted for quick review, strong fundamentals, and clinical insight.
Use this section to build confidence in thyroid cases β from OPD diagnosis to OT preparation!
