What is the Pharynx?

The pharynx is a muscular tube that connects the nasal cavity and oral cavity to the larynx and esophagus, playing a vital role in both the respiratory and digestive systems. It is anatomically divided into three parts:

Understanding the pharynx is crucial for diagnosing and managing common ENT conditions such as Tonsillitis, Pharyngitis, Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), Peritonsillar abscess, Pharyngeal tumors.

It also plays a key role in swallowing, speech, and immune defense (via Waldeyer’s ring).
