### 📝 Definition of Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty is a **surgical procedure performed to alter the shape, size, contour or function of the nose**, mostly for cosmetic improvement.

Indications are classified into four types:

1️⃣ **Cosmetic (Aesthetic) indications** - To improve the **aesthetic appearance of the face**

2️⃣ **Functional indications** - To improve **nasal breathing**

**Examples**

* External nasal deformity causing nasal obstruction

### ❌ Contraindications of Rhinoplasty

#### Absolute Contraindications

**1- Uncontrolled Systemic Illness**

**2- Acute Respiratory Infection**

⭐ As rhinoplasty is an elective surgery, the infection should be controlled before surgery.

**3- Untreated Psychiatric Illness or Body Dysmorphic Disorder**

⭐ A psychological assessment is required before taking such patients up for surgery.

**4- Active Pustule or Infection in the Operative Area**

⭐ Surgery is deferred until the condition resolves completely.

#### Relative Contraindications

**1- Very Young Patient**

**2- Acne, Thick and Oily Nasal Skin**

**3- Bleeding Diathesis**

Any history of abnormal bleeding must be investigated and treated before surgery.

**4- Diabetes or Poor Wound Healing**
